DINAGAT FESTIVAL

In honor of Sr. San Roque (the municiplaity Patron Saint), Cordovanhon's of Cordova, Cebu celebrates Dinagat Festival every 9th day of August. The Dinagat Festival. The annual festival was started last August 14, 1999. Showcasing the livelihood and fishing culture of the Cordovanhons which is abundant of rich marine resources.

The Local officials government of Cordova was very supportive to the festival, specially to Mayor Adelino Sitoy, Vice Mayor Rodrigo Jumao-as and other members of the parties.

There are 14 contingents from different elementary and high schools in the municipality who will compete and grab the awaiting top prize for Sayaw sa Dalan, a street dancing competition, Pasundayag, dance drama showdown, Dinagat Festival Queen, beautiful queens of Cordova's.

NATIONAL HERO'S DAY






National Heroes Day This day is dedicated to the memory of the nation's heroes throughout its history, observed every last Monday of August. It is a regular holiday marking the Cry of Pugad Lawin by Filipino Revolutionary forces called the Katipunan led by its Supremo Andres Bonifacio.[1] National Heroes' Day is a national holiday of Philippines, celebrated to pay homage to the National Heroes of the country. Every year this day falls on the fourth Monday of August. Initially National Heroes’ day was celebrated on 30th of November as it was the birthday of Andres Bonifacio, founder of the Katipunan. Later this day moves to the fourth Monday of August, to pay tribute to all other known or unknown men and women who sacrificed their lives for Philippine freedom. Philippines achieved its identity due to the noble deeds made by numbers of people, known as National Heroes. People of Philippines celebrate this day with a great enthusiasm. This is a perfect day to remember the life and work of all these great people.

RAMADAN





Ramadhan is the 9th month according to the Islamic calendar, holiest month in the Islamic calendar. Around the world, Ramadhan 2011 is also known as Ramadan 2011, Ramazan 2011, Ramzan 2011, Ramdan 2011, or Ramadaan 2011. Ramadan 2011 is the Islamic month of fasting, in which Muslims around the world observe Puasa (Fasting) from dawn to sunset, which means that every day during this month, Muslims spend the daylight hours in a complete fast, refraining from eating, drinking, that is in excess or ill-natured. Because of that, Ramadhan 2011 is also referred to as Fasting Month 2011, or Puasa 2011. When is Ramadhan 2011? Ramadhan 2011 (Ramadan 2011) is expected to start on Monday, 1st August 2011, and will end around Tuesday, 30th August 2011. Please note that the Ramadhan date is based on moon sighting, thus the exact date will be determined and announced by the Islamic authority on the day itself. The day after Ramadan 2011 will be celebrated as the Eid 2011, or referred to different names according to local languages, such as Lebaran 2011, Idul Fitri 2011, Hari Raya 2011, or Hari Raya Puasa 2011 in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

Pangungunahan ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) sa pangangasiwa ng Sangay ng Impormasyon at Publikasyon ang maikling palatuntunan sa darating na Lunes, Agosto 8 na inaasahang dadaluhan ni Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa, Jr., panauhing pandangal sa naturang okasyon at ng ilang opisyal ng MalacaƱang. Ang sabayang pag-awit ng ‘Lupang Hinirang’ ay pangungunahan ni Dr. Miriam P. Cabila ng Sangay ng Leksikograpiya at susundan ito ng panalangin na gagampanan ni Bb. Maria Theresa P. Putungan ng Sangay ng Impormasyon at Publikasyon. Ang Panunumpa sa Watawat ay pamumunuan ni G. Jomar I. CaƱega ng Sangay ng Leksikograpiya na kaagad susundan ng pagpapakilala sa panauhing pandangal at mensahe ni Punong Komisyoner Jose Laderas Santos ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino. Isang maikli subalit masustansiyang mensahe ang inaasahang ibabahagi ni Executive Secretary Ochoa sa mga dadalo sa naturang pagtitipon. Ang huling bilang ng palatuntunan ay ang pag-awit ng ‘Pilipinas Kong Mahal’ na pangungunahan ni Gng. Florencia C. dela Cruz ng KWF na inaasahang sasabayan ng mga dadalong panauhin na kinabibilangan ng mga opisyal at kawani ng Tanggapan ng Pangulo, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, at ng iba pang ahensiya ng pamahalaan. Ang taunang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa ay alinsunod sa Atas ng Pangulo ng Pilipinas, Proklamasyon Blg. 1041, s. 1997.
